Welcome to the Department of Linguistics and Cognitive Science!

Our official college site for our department includes some information for current students (for example, our major requirements from the course catalog and a list of our current faculty and staff).

This site, in contrast, is where we answer Frequently Asked Questions for current majors and potential majors to learn how to navigate our department, and to provide additional resources that might be helpful to our students. As you can see from the menu above, we have information about department policies and procedures, information relevant to academic advising, information on planning for your post-graduate career, information about who our department liaisons and linguistics mentors are (and what they do), among other resources.

You can use the Search tool at the bottom of this page to find a resource that you are looking for.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact Wendy: Wendy.Mcnerney@pomona.edu

IMPORTANT NOTE IF INTERESTED IN COGNITIVE SCIENCE: Because of too few faculty to support the many students who want to major in Cognitive Science, it is currently a limited major for first- and second-year students. For students in these class years who want to major in Cognitive Science, the first step is to take LGCS 011 (Introduction to Cognitive Science) in the fall or spring semester. At the end of the spring semester, all students who are taking or have taken LGCS 011 will be contacted to indicate their interest in declaring the major. A random lottery will then be used to select the students who can major. Any questions about this process can be directed to Professor Abrams, lise.abrams@pomona.edu.
